Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Calphalon 2-Quart Anodized Aluminum Acorn KettleCustomer Review: Lovely Kettle, but it has a couple small design flaws Summary: 4 Stars
This is a lovely tea kettle: conservative shape, grace, and excellent performance. Its main function is to boil water. It does that real fast and in style, no doubt about it. The thermally protective handle makes it easy to maneuver it on the stove and to direct the kettle towards the cup. It pours the steaming water perfectly, no spills, no mess. But there are a couple frustrating things that need to be mentioned. For such an expensive product, you would expect good quality for all component parts. However, the screw that joins the acorn knob to the lid is made of iron and rusts in a few weeks. Condensed water in the kettle comes in contact with this rusty screw before it falls back in the water bath, and this can't be considered hygienic. I'm surprised the manufacturer didn't think of that, everything else is rustproof except for this little screw... Anyway, my solution was to replace the iron screw with a plastic one. Another small flaw is that it's hard to put the lid on and take it off. It has a lock-in position, and the lid needs to be positioned precisely in orded to cover the kettle tightly. However, this allows for perfect sealing, which is a nice feature.
Description of Calphalon 2-Quart Anodized Aluminum Acorn KettleOne of the cutest tea kettle designs to come along in a while, this 2-quart acorn kettle from Calphalon uses the same highly conductive hard-anodized aluminum as many of their pans, which provides rapid boiling. The matching lid features an acorn design etched into the top and an acorn and oak leaf knob of molded, heat-resistant resin, while the arched half-handle is double riveted for extra-sturdiness when pouring a full pot and heat resistant with a soft rubber grip. To clean, use hot, sudsy water and a dishcloth or a Scotch-Brite pad. If grease or food splatters on the outside, a cleanser such as Ajax or Comet may be used. --Doree Armstrong
