Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Calphalon Tri-Ply Copper 4-1/2-Quart Saucepan with Stainless LidCustomer Review: It doesn't get much better than this... Summary: 5 Stars
This saucepan is absolutely wonderful. - The performance of the saucepan is almost as good as my professional-weight (but very expensive) French copper pans. The heat is EXTREMELY even, and nothing ever burns! I have not been able to see ANY hot spots on this pan. I have been able to make things in this pan that I ordinarily wouldn't dare to without a double-boiler as a precaution. - The handles are extremely ergonomic and don't ever get hot. It also has a thoughtfully designed helper handle. - The size is a perfect for lots of sauce, ragus, or even just boiling pasta for 1 or 2. This is now one of my most-used pans. - Easy to clean. Who says copper is hard to clean? I treat it like I would treat any of my stainless steel pans (soap and a sponge), and the pan cleans up very nicely. When it starts to tarnish after a while, I just give it a quick once-over with Bar Keeper's Friend and it's back to it's beautiful, polished, warm copper look. - It doesn't seem to ever scratch. Unlike some of my French copper pieces or my All-Clad pieces, shaking this pan on my cast-iron burners doesn't get any of the deep scratches I might get on my other pieces. Overall, I think this is a fantastic pan, and I wonder why people don't buy this line more. I have heard it compared it to the Calphalon Stainless Steel Tri-Ply line, and I don't think that line compares to this line at all. The Tri-Ply Copper line is MUCH heavier and thicker than the Stainless Steel Tri-Ply line. Also, the quality is much better on this Copper line - everything feels like it has been engineered better and put together better. Try it - you won't be disappointed!
Description of Calphalon Tri-Ply Copper 4-1/2-Quart Saucepan with Stainless LidThis 4-1/2-quart saucepan is large enough to cook a beurre blanc or marinara sauce for six to eight people, simmer larger quantities of homemade applesauce, or even boil pasta for two. The pan?s large size and helper handle allow it to be used for sauces and also for recipes that call for a smaller-sized stockpot. Part of Calphalon?s premium Tri-Ply Copper line, this brilliant stainless-steel and copper-accented cookware performs beautifully and looks gorgeous. The pan?s exterior is crafted of copper?-the superior metal for heat conduction?-while a heavy-gauge aluminum core runs through its center. The combination of these two metals provides more exact control while cooking and excellent end results. The interior is made of 18/10 stainless steel, which is nonreactive to acidic foods and offers a reflective surface that makes it easier to know when foods are completely cooked. This cookware has Calphalon?s patented stainless-steel Cool-V handles that stay cool to the touch on the stovetop and stainless-steel lids that fit snugly onto the pan for a tight seal. All Tri-Ply Copper cookware is oven-safe up to 450 degrees F and is covered by a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde
